Devotion - September 6

SCRIPTURE:

Luke 24

Jesus Has Risen

24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
First day of the week. Will that be Sunday? Very early in the morning... the women took the spices... didn't said got up, but anyways... they prepared the spices beforehand. Remember, Jesus died on a Friday, and they couldn't work on a Saturday because it was a Sabbath.
There is PREPARATION.
They went to the Tomb. What the people think is the final destination. You can think it's the grave.
What is the purpose of spices? It is used to delay or clean the dead.
This maybe their act of worship.

They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
In another book, I read before na iniisip nila kung paano irorolyo yung batong nakaharang... but they still went even though di nila alam anong gagawin sa challenge. They were prepared to anoint Jesus, but they weren't prepared or kulang sila for the labor.

The surprising thing?
THAT BIG PIECE OF ROCK IS ROLLED AWAY.
We can ask, who rolled away the stone? Tinanggal na ng Diyos yung hurdle. One thing na mapupulot ko po dito is Faith, kasi dumiretso yung mga babae, knowing this challenge.

NEXT:

It is supposed to be there. Wala naman dapat gagalaw. This can be heartbreaking. I don't want to give any other interpretations, kasi di siya saklaw ng verse. It simply said:
They did not find the body of Jesus.
There are other questions that can be raised but no muna.

While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.
Habang nagtataka sila patungkol dito, regarding sa body ni Jesus... kung nasaan ito, sino kumuha, and all other questions....

Something happened....

Two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.

Are there clothes that gleam like lightning? Kumikislap. Parang dagitab.
We can probably infer that those men were angels.. for one, where can you see clothes in those age, that gleams like lightning.

What is the scary part?
They stood beside them.
Very scary.
In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.

Sa takot, the women bowed down w/faces to the ground.
This was the initial response.
They were acknowledging something that was higher than them, because of the physical factors that they saw.
But what did the men said?

"Imbes na, no... iba...
Bakit??
The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.
[What does this mean? He was twice raised from the dead?]

And when those two men said that, doon lang nila naalala.
When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
Nung bumalik sila galing sa tomb,
sinabi nila ito sa Eleven. Take note, the disciples group here are capitalized. the Eleven....
and to all the others.
Merong something at naisulat yung the Eleven.
Tapos dito sinabi kung sino sino
Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James,
and others w/them who told this to the apostles.
So the eleven are the apostles?

They did not believed the women, kasi yung sinasabi nila seems seems senseless.
1) Point taken.
One lesson here is that, God can show his miracles... and even if you tell it to people, even to those who are close to him...
The tendency is that, they will not believe it... kahit madami kayong nagsasabi.

However, one responded.. and that was Peter. He got up and ran to the tomb. Umalis siya, at tumakbo. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen
(hala Lord... nagkakalat po kayo... )
lying by themselves.

At umalis siya,
nagtataka kung anong nangyari.

So basically, this group of people do not know what happened.
Pero sinabi na kung anong nangyari:

Jesus has risen.

On the Road to Emmaus

13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem.
The same day, merong dalawa sa kampo ang pupunta sa isang village na ang tawag ay Emmaus... which is about seven miles (or about 11 km) mula Jerusalem. So ibig sabihin, nasa Jerusalem sila.
14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.
Pinaguusapan nila kung ano yung nangyayari. Lahat ng nangyayari. It was the meat of their conversation.
15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.
Habang naguusap sila patungkol dito,
here we can see.... a twist.
Jesus, in the flesh, himself... came up.
at lumakad siya kasama sila. He also took the journey with them.

May twist ulit:
They (the two people) were kept from recognizing him.
The question is: bakit?
Did Jesus kept that from recognizing him.
Maybe there was a purpose, and that is to know the hearts of men.
17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
They stood still, their faces downcast.
Tinanong niya sila, anong pinaguusapan niyong dalawa habang naglalakad kayo? Tumayo lang sila, with faces downcast.
Faces downcast. Does that mean, malungkot sila? Uncertain?
18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

Isa sa kanila, named Cleopas... so it's not from the Eleven.
asked him..

19 “What things?” he asked.
“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

Anong mga bagay? tanong ni Jesus...
And then sinabi nila yung center ng pinaguusapn nila...
Powerful in word and deed... before God, and all the people.
The rulers crucified him... authorities in religion,
It is the third day since ito ang nangyari.

which was Jesus.
25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
How foolish you are, at ang bagal na maniwala sa lahat ng pinagsasabi ng mga propeta! Did not the Messiah (in context, alam niya si Jesus ang Messiah) have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
Nung papalapit na sila sa village na pinupuntahan nila, nagpatuloy maglakad si Jesus as if na lalayo pa siya. Pero inurge nila strongly... Di lang isa to siguro.

Stay with us, kasi malapit ng maggabi. Patapos na ang araw.
Kaya sumama si Jesus sa kanila.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
The breaking of the bread.... the breaking of the body?
And he disappeared from their sight.

33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

They got up.. so siguro kinabukasan to... at bumalik at once sa Jerusalem. At doon, nakita ang Eleven at those w/them... at sinasabing,

TOTOO! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.
So may nangyari..

Tapos, kinuwento ng dalawa ano yung nangyari on the way, at paano nirecognize sila ni Jesus nung binoroke nila yung bread.

There is something in the breaking of the bread.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

At habang pinaguusapan nila ang mga ito, Jesus stood among them stood at sinabing , Peace be with you.
37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.
38 He said to them,“Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones.. na kitang kita na meron ako.
40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.
44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
At habang di sila makapaniwala dahil sa joy and amazement (take note, not out of doubt.. this was something incredible!)... he asked them, Meron ba kayong makakain dito?

They gave him a piece of broiled fish... at kinuha ito at kinain sa presensya nila.
Just to prove that he really is alive.
These people saw him before, mid, but after.... di sila makapaniwala.
45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them,“This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension of Jesus

50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
Then he opened their minds... para maintindihan nila ang Scriptures.
One really cannot understand the Bible without the help of Jesus.
Sinabi niya sa kanila yung laman.

The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; pero dito lang muna kayo sa city hanggang kayo ay madamitan ng kapangyarihan mula sa itaas.

When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, Jesus lifted up his hands and blessed them. At habang binebless niya sila, umalis siya and was taken up to heaven.

Then they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

Jesus wasn't finished in blessing the people, kasi babalik pa siya..
